Ingredients caramelized onions in beer


5 to 6 medium cooking onions
2 to 3 tablespoons beer of your choice
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tbsp brown sugar

how to make caramelized onions in beer


slice onions thin, about 1/4" thick


in a nonstick pan over med - high heat melt butter & oil, stir in salt, pepper & brown sugar


add onions, stir often cooking for 6 to 8 minutes


turn heat down med - low cook 45 minutes more, stirring occasionally til onions are fully cooked, caramel colour and liquid is absorbed


remove from heat stir in beer a tablespoon at a time, careful not to make too much liquid in onions
