tomato chutney



Ingredients tomato chutney


10 large tomatoes
2 large onions
4 green chillies
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder(optional)
1/2 tsp red chilli powder(optional)
1 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp black mustard seeds
1 1/2 tsp salt(u may reduce or increase according to ur taste)
2 tsp chopped coriander

how to make tomato chutney


Finely chop the onions and the green chillies and set aside


Thoroughly wash the tomatoes. Cut the tops and dice all the tomatoes and set aside


In a wok(or a kadhai) or a saucepan add the oil and heat it


Once the oil is hot add the cumin and mustard seeds


When the seeds start crackling add the green chillies(be careful it flies everywhere) and the chopped onions


Saute them till the onions start changing colour. Add all the spices and the salt


Mix the spices with the onion and let it cook for 1 min. Then add the tomatoes and the sugar


Cook the tomatoes on medium-high heat till the break down completely and lose all their liquid(takes abt 15 min) stir occasionaly


Dont worry if it burns a little at the bottom of the pan it'll taste better


check the seasoning, and add more sugar if it feels tart and cook for another min


Add the garam masala and the coriander and mix and serve
